Do you know that the color you see on your screen is not necessary the real color ?
In a perfect world what you see in real life should be the same on your screen and the same then printed.
Let say you take a photo of a white wall. Our eyes knows what is white. Even when the sun hides we know its still white no matter the luminosity or the way objects will make the color change. For our brain, white is white.
Our cameras do not work the same way, we need to tell what is white so every other colors are correct. This is what is called White balance. It can be automatic or manually setup.
Let say you shot a white wall, with a correct white balance. Then you display it on your computer screen and your screen displays it, with its luminosity and contrast. No monitors are equal especially nowadays cheap screens that push the colors and contrast to give you a “pleasant” photo. But a pleasant photo on your screen is not a correct photo:
Most screens saturate color and contrasts to give you this pleasant look. So you wont need to correct your photos much to have “nice” photos. But its not true. When you will print your photos or display it on a neutral screen you will get low contrast, bad colors without saying WRONG colors.
A good photo, a correct photo is not necessary pleasing on your screen. Its a photo that looks “the same” on every media and with colors and contrasts as natural as possible.
We want our customers to have no suprise when they look at our retouched photos on different media medias. This is why we use state of the art Eizo screens (it s like Ferrari for monitors) and calibrated monitors when we create our products. We see many benefits:
1.You don’t have to buy very expensive equipement to get color perfection. Reality is even better than on your screen.
2. You don ‘t have to understand how color works, its fine tuned for you. We take weeks to be sure about the exact colors we use. + we do it in a calibrated, controlled environnement. We make sure to reduce variations that you may see on different medias.
